Hey, welcome to The Young Faithful Mama Blog. My name is Justice Rodriguez and helping young mamas like you stop feeling unqualified, overwhelmed, and chaotic so you can start raising your babies with more peace and joy. By sharing some of my experiences and things that I learned through my journey so you can become a Young Faithful Mama too as you navigate through your life as a wife and mother.
Today we will be talking about your mind. As a mother is very important to be aware of what’s going on in our minds. As a mother that’s dealt with postpartum depression and anxiety, I believe this blog post will help you. I pray that it blesses you and God heals you.
Be Transformed
The mind is one of the main places he wants to transform once we give our hearts to Jesus. Romans 12: 2 tells us not to be conformed to this world but to be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
Why?
So that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. The verse before this tells us to present our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God.
Now I will not tell you it ends at asking Jesus to come into your heart and accepting him as your Lord and savior. That’s where the transformation of our minds will start. We will need to take action.
As I was searching through scripture about the mind, I came across psalm 94:11
“The lord knows the thoughts of man, that they are futile’’
What does futile mean?
Incapable of producing any useful results; pointless
So, the thoughts of man are pointless. Are our earthly thoughts incapable of producing anything useful?
Personally this was not only humbling because face it I think I come up with some good ideas but if I really think about it I have also had points in my life were my thoughts almost ended my life and we know everything good thing comes from God and we have seen in scripture that in our own strength we can’t do even half of what God can do and we are even commanded to not lean on our own understanding .
Proverbs 3:5 says trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.
When we are saved, we accept Jesus into our heart but there is also something that happens in your mind. Your heart and mind are connected. We need to be very aware of what we allow into our minds because it flows to our hearts. In proverbs 4:23 we know that from the heart flows the springs of life. Which shapes our character and influences our behavior.
Why is mental health so important?
I know when people especially Christians hear the word mental health things get a little tense. You have some people that abuse the term, and you have some people that understand what it means to take care of your mental health.
Let’s start off with the fact that God cares about your mind
Continuing in proverbs 3 verse 6 “in all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths’’
Doesn’t say hide your feelings and acknowledge Him, it doesn’t say go tell that person off then go acknowledge Him, it doesn’t say pretend you’re okay and then you’ll be able to acknowledge Him.
In all your ways, acknowledge Him. With all your pain and hurts, your disappointments and frustrations.
Acknowledge means to accept, admit, or recognize the existence, truth, or validity of something. When we finally accept Him then He can make our paths straight .
As person that struggled with her mental health for many years, and nothing helped me like Jesus. Having a truly authentic relationship with Him has truly changed my life.
What does a relationship with Jesus look like?
- reading His word and applying it to my life
- having the Holy Spirit guiding and teaching me
- Praying and fasting
- Being teachable and not refusing to be corrected
If you’re struggling in your mind, it will make your walk with God harder unnecessarily harder.
What are some things that will hinder your relationship with Jesus?
- Lack mindset
- Being led by the flesh
- Not reading your word (if you’re not in His word you can’t hear Him)
- Unrepented and stubbornness
Our mental health is important because it’s how we can measure how far or close we are to Jesus. The closer we are to Him, the better our minds and hearts will be, but it is when we are not making that connect daily, we start to feel heavy. When we are not walking in his perfect plan, things can feel off. We need to stay close to Him and in His will.
Surrendering all your thoughts and beliefs of who God is getting into the Word to get to know who He is as you study and apply it to your life is when He will start renewing your mind and replace the lies with truth.
That is when the true transformation begins when we lay down our understanding and reach out to receive His.
Think Higher
Isaiah 55:8- 9 The Lord tells us, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways,” says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
The Lord’s thoughts are higher and better than ours and that is why we can trust Him with our minds, feelings, and emotions.
We are only as limited as our mind ; and we have been given the authority to have a sound mind .
You are free to walk in the renewal of your mind .
It may not be your fault for your traumas and triggers but its our responsibility how you handle yourself and how you show up.
The Posture Of Surrender
There is a peace in releasing of our will and walking in God’s.
James 4:7 says “therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
We must resist the enemy, we can do that by picking up our cross daily.
Then Jesus said to His disciples, “if anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.” – Matthew 16:24
I believe this verse is one of the best when struggle with your mind because Jesus is telling us exactly how to get of the depression, how to come out of the anxious thoughts, how to get out of the self-sabotage and people pleasing.
Deny yourself. Command your flesh to align with what God says about you and God calls you. The more truth you get in you, the more lies have to flee, and the clearer your mind will be.
The healing of your mind is in the surrender of what you believe, and the acceptance of what the Word teaches you.
It’s in that consistent posture of lifted hands and open arms to whatever God wants to do in and through us we can start to understand His heart and How we can be used by Him .
We start to become more aware of Him and His will over our lives. Soon some chains start failing off; the weight begins to lift. You realize that you are no longer alone; actually, you were never alone. He was always there but you were just too close minded to see He was always with you and all the things that happened when you felt He was so far now going to be used to helping someone else get the freedom you have experienced.
That’s the process of freedom. We don’t get free for us; don’t get me wrong, we become better, but we get free so that anyone we come in contact with us will never have to keep being bound. They will see your light, the joy and they will be attracted and that’s when you be able to proud proclaim The Good News of Jesus.
I pray that this blog blessed you and that you found value in it. If this encourages you, leave a comment, and or share with someone.
